Tape hair extensions care and maintenance
Our tape in hair extensions are of premium quality, which means you will be able to heat style, colour treat, swim with and sleep comfortably with them, without causing damage – as long as you remember some hair care tips.
Washing your hair
For the healthiest looking hair, make sure that you only wash your hair with salon quality products. It’s best to avoid products that contain protein, keratin or sulphates, which are commonly found in supermarkets. To make finding the right products easier for our clients, we have a variety of hair care products that are suitable for extensions. After you wash your hair, you will find that your hair will look silkier and feel softer if you blow dry it.
Weekly nourishing mask
To keep your hair in its best condition, we recommend using a deep treatment mask weekly. This is especially important if you regularly heat style your hair.
Heat styling
When styling your hair with a straighter or curling wand, don’t forget to use a heat protectant. An additional style tip: avoid wearing hairstyles that are too tight, as they can excessively pull on the extensions.
Swimming with tape hair extensions
To protect your hair from salty or chlorinated water, damp your hair and tie it into a loose plait before you swim, and be sure to rinse it with cold water once you are out. It’s best to wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner that same day or night. While swimming with tape extensions is okay, we recommend keeping exposure to chlorine and salt water to a minimum as it can shorten the lifespan of your hair extensions if they absorb salt or certain chemicals too frequently.
Salon maintenance sessions
As your natural hair grows, your tape in hair extensions will move down from their original position. So, to keep your hair looking its best and to avoid causing any damage to the extensions, you will need to re-visit your hair extensions salon to have the extensions removed, washed, dried and re-tapped.
Every client can need these maintenance appointments at different times, since it depends on how fast your natural hair grows. On average, you will need to visit the salon every four to six weeks. Salon visits can be scheduled enjoyable and relaxing self-care time, and at EH Hair, we aim to make the maintenance process as stress-free, fast and comfortable as we can.
