Looking Back at The Year: 7 Popular Hairstyles of 2016

If you are one of those people who go into a hair salon and decide on a hairstyle based on what is popular and trendy at the moment, you are not alone. After all, part of being a good hair salon is their knowing what the popular hairstyles of the moment are, and being able to deliver the goods to the customer’s satisfaction.
And just in case you were wondering, here are 7 of the most popular hairstyles of 2016, in no particular order:
Texturised Lob
Think shaggy, choppy shoulder-length hair that looks so good on the likes of Emma Watson and Adele. This hairstyle is effortless, chic and trendy, and best of all, it also requires little maintenance.
Shag
This is quite similar to the texturised lob, as it’s slightly, well, shaggy, with a long fringe and lots of medium layers around the face. Taylor Swift is a celebrity who’s been spotted in this (also) low maintenance hairstyle.
Pixie Cut
The pixie cut, or some similar variation, has been touted by celebrity hairstylists as the “it” hairstyle of the year – and for good reason. Celebrities who have taken the leap, including Kate Mara, look amazing!
Full Fringe
It’s a good time to rock those bangs! Get a softer fringe for a more classic, glamorous look, or blunt bangs for an edgier finish. Whichever you choose, bangs work well with more hair styles, but especially those with medium to thick, or curly, hair.
Long Bob (With Fringe!)
Take inspiration from the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Sienna Miller for this one. A long bob is a little shorter than a lob, with the length of your hair sitting around your chin. And don’t forget the fringe!
Choppy Layers
Is anyone else noticing a trend here? This popular hairstyle of 2016, as seen on Emma Stone, bears similarities with some of the others in that it is choppy with a lived-in feel. To achieve this look, ask for “visible layers” when you next visit your hair salon.
The Midi
As demonstrated so beautifully by Karlie Kloss, this is a medium length cut that is sort of in between long and short hair. It’s lighter than a lob, but not quite as blunt as a bob.
